Forms Version Vault Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 10, 2026

Forms Version Vault is a Chrome extension that provides local version history for Google Forms. It lets users save checkpoints, compare form changes, and review saved versions while editing a form.

Data processed by the extension

While the user is editing a Google Form, Forms Version Vault reads the form structure needed to create and compare checkpoints. This can include:

Forms Version Vault does not read or store respondent answers.

Local processing and storage

Form snapshots, checkpoint names, saved version history, and extension settings are stored locally in the user's browser using Chrome extension storage.

Forms Version Vault does not transmit Google Form content, saved checkpoints, version history, URLs, or extension settings to the developer or to any external server.

Auto-save

If the user enables auto-save, Forms Version Vault periodically checks the visible Google Forms editor for structural changes and saves a new local checkpoint only when the form has changed. This processing remains local to the browser.

Exports

Users can manually export saved version history as HTML or JSON files. Exporting is initiated by the user and does not upload the exported data to the developer or to any external service.

Data not collected

Forms Version Vault does not collect or transmit:

Data sharing and sale

Forms Version Vault does not sell, rent, share, or transfer user data to third parties. User data is not used for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or purposes unrelated to the extension's core functionality.

Data retention and deletion

Saved checkpoints remain in Chrome's local extension storage until the user deletes individual checkpoints, clears saved history, clears the extension's local data, or removes the extension.

Permissions

Forms Version Vault uses the storage permission only to save local checkpoints, version history, checkpoint names, and extension settings.

Host access is limited to Google Forms document pages and is used only so the extension can read the structure of the form currently being edited and create or compare local checkpoints.

Remote code and external services

Forms Version Vault does not execute remotely hosted code and does not send Google Form data to external services.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated if Forms Version Vault's functionality or data practices change. The updated date at the top of this page will reflect the latest version.
